Animation Assignment

For my animation assignment I would like to do my animation using Lego. Animations that I like in Lego are shown bellow:

Doctor Who New Beginnings 1

NNN Chapter 1 New Beginnings

Minilife TV Episode 1 Dummy Demolition

Call Of Duty MW3 The Good The Bad and The Noob

Some scenes I would like to make in lego are:

The Mind Palace scene from Sherlock Season 2 Episode 2: The Hounds Of Baskerville

Sherlock Season 1 Episode 3: The Great Game

I would want to to the stand off at the end of the clip

I would like to do my own doctor who regeneration

From my ideas I have decided to my own doctor who regeneration. I decided not to do the mind palace scene because I thought it would be to hard to accomplish. Here are some of the effects I want to use for the regeneration on my animation:

I have created my first couple of seconds

24/4/14

I have created the first scene of my animation though it was hard to set it up and align it. I need to add to add my second scene along with sound and effects.

This is the audio from garageband. Some of the techniques I used was fade in's and out's on some of the music tracks. I used this on the slider. To edit the music I used the music levels and added points on the line and when I set the line to gradually decline the music would fade out.

Time Lapse Animation

Time-lapse Animation
Time lapse animation when you set a camera to go off once every 10 minutes when you have 500 frames that would take 5000 minutes to capture but because it takes 25 frames a second it would only be 20 seconds of animation. Even though it doesn't take long to set up a time lapse animation it would take a long time to make sure that the camera goes off at the exact same time and it takes longer to do a time lapse animation than any other animation.

Red Bull Can Time lapse

This is a time lapse of someone drawing a red bull can. The video is 3:45 or 225 seconds and the frame rate is 25 FPS then 225 x 25= 5625 frames to take for the video. If he took a picture every 10 seconds then 5625 x 10 = 56250 then divide 56250 by 60 seconds which equals 937 minuets.

Modern Animation

Modern Animation

Modern times brought about the introduction of new ways to create animation. One of these techniques was cel based animation. Cell based animation is where a series of drawings is created each one being slightly different. They are then photographed and 25 different pictures are needed for 1 second of footage. This equals 8000 pictures for 30 seconds of material.

Family Guy is famous animation in modern times which uses cel based animation. This show is mainly
aimed at viewers who are in their late teens and older. Family Guy was created by Seth McFarlane in 1999.

Adventure Time

Adventure Time is a recent successful cartoon which uses cel based animation. The show is aimed teenagers but has hidden jokes that are appeal to an older audience. It was created in 2010 by Pendleton Ward.

Morph

Morph is show that uses clay based animation which involves making clay models and photographing the characters one frame at a time. In the UK we use the standard 25 frames per second while the US go up to 30 frames per second. The Morph Files was produced by Aardman Animations.

Blues Clues

Blues Clues was a children's show that used cut out animation. It was created in 1996 for Nickelodeon television in America. Cut out animation is when characters are created on paper and then cut out. Cut out animation also uses the standard of 25 frames per second to photograph.

Practise Animation

Practise Animation - Godzilla

These two animations are made by me and Marcus. I designed the tank to use in the animation. Marcus  and I made the Godzilla for the animation. I enjoyed making these models.

Tank

 Godzilla

Background

The animation is filmed on had I Stop Motion. The settings for filming had to be Lage Widescreen with the speed being12 FPS. When you move make a new scene an onion skin is created. Finally slow is good.

Animation before Titles and credits

I have produced a stop motion animation about Godzilla. Overall I felt the project went well because of the well designed models we made. One thing I would improve is the background and the set.

Adding Sound

To add sound to my movie I had to do a few thing:

1. Collect the sounds I used
2. Get all the right sounds on the right levels
3. Add fade in and  outs to the music to where I want them

Some problems that I found was getting the sound levels right for all the effects so I could here what I wanted

Final Movie

Evaluation

Overall I found this project went well because I found I stop motion easy to use because I have used it before and I knew how to use it. When editing my sound effects I found some problems with the sounds but I got them sorted out in the end. If I could change something I would change the background.

George Melies was a french illusionist and filmaker who accidentally discovered a substitution stop trick in 1896 when he was filming a traffic scene with a omnibus but the camera jammed and when it started again he started it again and filmed the was a herse in the scene so it looked like the bus had transformed into a herse. There are just over 200 films left out of 400 because most of them were melted down to silver for bullets and the plastic for shoe heels in WW1. For his own films he made his own sets and sometimes starred in is own films.

One of his famous animations was called Voyage to the moon

For his animations he used giant sheets of paper to draw on and hand colou each of his drawings. Also in his animations he made his cartoons be able to stretch and distort because he had such an imagination.

Lotte Reiniger

Lotte Reiniger was a german silhouette animator who used black paper which was cut out. She also cut out separate parts for arms and legs to make them look like they are moving. One of her famous pieces was Prince Achmed.

Walt Disney

Walt Disney made Steamboat Willie in 1928 which was the first to use sound which paved a way to do new styles of animation.
