Practise Animation

Practise Animation - Godzilla

These two animations are made by me and Marcus. I designed the tank to use in the animation. Marcus  and I made the Godzilla for the animation. I enjoyed making these models.

Tank

 Godzilla

Background

The animation is filmed on had I Stop Motion. The settings for filming had to be Lage Widescreen with the speed being12 FPS. When you move make a new scene an onion skin is created. Finally slow is good.

Animation before Titles and credits

I have produced a stop motion animation about Godzilla. Overall I felt the project went well because of the well designed models we made. One thing I would improve is the background and the set.

Adding Sound

To add sound to my movie I had to do a few thing:

1. Collect the sounds I used
2. Get all the right sounds on the right levels
3. Add fade in and  outs to the music to where I want them

Some problems that I found was getting the sound levels right for all the effects so I could here what I wanted

Final Movie

Evaluation

Overall I found this project went well because I found I stop motion easy to use because I have used it before and I knew how to use it. When editing my sound effects I found some problems with the sounds but I got them sorted out in the end. If I could change something I would change the background.

Animation 1930's - 1950's

Disney

Disney in the 1930's started to make feature length animations which included film techniques to make it like a movie. Snow White was first successful animation movie.

Fleischer

A rival of Disney was Fleischer which made animations for an adult audience. The early Popeye and Betty Boop animations were for adults with drug references.

Fred Quimby worked for the Hannah & Barbara Corporation wo did Heaven Puss (bellow) and did other classic Tom and Jerry.

This was done using cell based animation this is done by do a drawing then a clear sheet of plastic is put on top of it and then you paint the outline of the drawing then you take off the sheet of plastic and paint out the back and then you photograph it then you go back to the drawing and trace around it with another sheet of plastic but with small differences then you paint it and photograph it again. This must be done 25 times for every second of animation.

There are just over 200 films left out of 400 because most of them were melted down to silver for bullets and the plastic for shoe heels in WW1. For his own films he made his own sets and sometimes starred in is own films.

One of his famous animations was called Voyage to the moon

Also in his animations he made his cartoons be able to stretch and distort because he had such an imagination.

My Own Animation and Pixilation

Pixilation - How it is done

Pixilation is done by using real people instead of models. You take photos of the people who are stood still that do a different action each time and when they are played back it give the impression of movement.

The first animation done with this was created by Norman Maclaren in 1952 called Neighbors  In some of the scenes they jump up and the photographer would have had to get the photo when they were exactly in the air.

Another animation using this technique is by PES called Human Skateboard. In the film there would be scenes that would have been hard to because in one scene the actor playing the skateboard would have had to balance exactly on the curb.

My Own Animation

I have created a pixilation animation where you take one picture after another and and when you play it back it gives the illusion of animation. I have used Jacob Heaton in my group to create it.

How We See Animation

How do we see animation

The way we see animation is by having pictures one after the other and the brain is tricked into see the image moving one after the other. It works if the image seen is between 1/25 and 1/12. This is called persistance of vision.

Early types of animation

In the past animation was viewed in different ways one of those ways is by using a device called the zoetrope. The earliest known one is from China in 180 by the inventor Ting Huan.

It works by using a cylinder which has holes cut on the side and has images which go in the inside. Each of the images are different one after the other. When you look through the slits it gives the illusion that the images are moving.

Phenakistoscope

The phenakistoscope was invented in 1841 by Joseph Plaateau. It works by having a having a disc with images on after the other which are different and when the disc is spun it gives the impression that the images are moving.

Kinetoscope

The kinetoscope was invented by Thomas Edison. It works by having a series of photographs on a drum which flick one after each other giving the impression the images are moving.

Mutoscope

The Mutoscope was a early motion picture device that works by putting a coin in and pulling a hand crank which then a person would look through a lens and the pictures inside would get shown one after the other.
